Clostridium botulinum type F in the soil of Argentina.

چکیده
One strain of Clostridium botulinum belonging to type F has been isolated from a soil sample taken in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Comparative studies carried out with strain Langeland of C. botulinum type F have shown a few differences between the two strains.

Phenotypic characterization of Clostridium botulinum strains isolated from infant botulism cases in Argentina.
Infant botulism is the most common form of human botulism; however, its transmission has not been completely explained yet. Some of the most recognized potential sources of Clostridium botulinum spores are the soil, dust, honey and medicinal herbs. In Argentina, 456 cases of infant botulism were reported between 1982 and 2007. C. botulinum type A was identified in 455 of these cases whereas typ...
متن کاملDouble Sandwich ELISA Modified Method for the Detection of Clostridium Botulinum Type E
Background & Objective: A very small amount of botulinum toxin can cause death and on the other hand, there is no cure for its poison other than antitoxin. Therefore, a diagnostic method that can detect very small amounts of botulinum toxin in a short time is very important. In this study, rapid and accurate detection of botulinum toxin type E has been performed with the double sandwich ELISA m...
متن کاملImmunogenic and Protective Potentials of Recombinant Receptor Binding Domain and a C-Terminal Fragment of Clostridium botulinum Neurotoxin Type E
Clostridium Botulinum Type E neurotoxin heavy chain consists of two domains: the translocation domain asthe N-terminal half and the binding domain as the Cterminal half (Hc). One effective way to neutralize botulinum neurotoxin is to inhibit binding of this toxin to neuromuscular synapses with antibodies against binding domain. Two synthetic genes, coding for Hc (the full length binding d...
متن کاملCommon mesophilic anaerobes, including Clostridium botulinum and Clostridium tetani, in 21 soil specimens.
A relatively rich medium was markedly superior to a dilute medium for the isolation of anaerobic bacteria from soil. The obligate anaerobes isolated from 21 soil samples were all clostridia and the counts ranged from 2.7 X 10-2 to 3.3 X 10-6 per g. The organisms most frequently isolated were Clostridium subterminate, C. sordelii, C. sporogenes, C. indolis, C. bifermentans, C. mangenoti, and C. ...
متن کاملIsolation of Clostridium botulinum type G from Swiss soil specimens by using sequential steps in an identification scheme.
After Clostridium botulinum type G organisms and toxin were identified in necropsy specimens in cases of unexplained death in adults and infants (O. Sonnabend, W. Sonnabend, R. Heinzle, T. Sigrist, R Dirnhofer, and U. Krech, J. Infect. Dis. 143:22-27, 1981), extensive research to detect C. botulinum type G in soil samples from Switzerland was done. A total of 41 specimens from virgin soil and f...
